A one-year-old boy has died after he was mauled by his family\u2019s dog while home alone with his brothers on Tuesday night, police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of East 17th Street in the Flatbush neighborhood at around 10.45 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a child who was attacked by a dog, a spokesperson for the New York Police<\/a> Department told Newsweek.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Officers arrived at the scene to find the 19-month-old boy \u201cheavily bleeding\u201d after sustaining bite wounds to the neck and shoulder. He was transported to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The dog was contained inside a room in the residence when police had arrived at the scene, the NYPD<\/a> spokesperson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Emergency Service Unit personnel responded to the scene and took custody of the dog, which was brought to Animal Care and Control, the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Police said the deceased child\u2019s identity was not yet being released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The child\u2019s father left the boy with his brothers\u2014aged 9 and 11\u2014in the family\u2019s ground floor apartment while he went to work on Tuesday evening, the New York Daily News<\/em> reported. The child\u2019s mother was also at work, according to PIX11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The boy\u2019s siblings reportedly ran outside to get help after the dog attacked him. A passerby stop and pulled the boy out of the apartment, according to the Daily News.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n An investigation is underway, and the parents could face charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It wasn\u2019t immediately clear what prompted the attack.
