In fact,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/healthy-lifestyle\/adult-health\/expert-answers\/sitting\/faq-20058005#:~:text=Research%20has%20linked%20sitting%20for,that%20make%20up%20metabolic%20syndrome.\" target=\"_blank\">according to the Mayo Clinic, sitting for long hours can lead to obesity<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/masalabody.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">virtual weight loss coach<\/a>, I work with many women that sit for 8-10 hours a day for their jobs, and I help them find ways to lose weight despite their physical inactivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It might seem impossible to lose weight if you\u2019re chained to a desk all day, but it IS possible \u2013 you just need the right strategies. That is why you need to plan what you\u2019ll be eating for lunch BEFORE you head off to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you don\u2019t plan your lunch, you have a stronger likelihood of eating something totally unhealthy. So if you work in an office, pack your lunch the night before and bring it with you (see my article about<a href=\"https:\/\/masalabody.com\/healthy-eating-at-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;healthy eating at work<\/a>, which has a bunch of great, easy-to-make, easy-to-pack lunch recipes).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if you work from home, you still need to plan what you\u2019ll eat for lunch the next day. Surveys have shown that the<a href=\"https:\/\/studyfinds.org\/weight-loss-eating-more-frequently-working-remotely\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;advent of work-from-home has actually made our eating habits worse<\/a>, with many doing a lot more snacking than they ever did at the office. If you work from home, make sure your pantry is stocked with healthy lunch and snack foods (keep reading to see what those are!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2.&nbsp;<strong>OUTSMART YOUR CRAVINGS BY PLANNING SNACKS AHEAD OF TIME<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20370%20247'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/masalabodycom.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/maksim-shutov-pUa1On18Jno-unsplash-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load wp-image-15810\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/masalabodycom.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/maksim-shutov-pUa1On18Jno-unsplash-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15810\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe you\u2019re hungry, maybe you\u2019re stressed, maybe you\u2019re bored \u2013 whatever the reason, snacking is something most of us do during work. But if we don\u2019t plan ahead, then it\u2019s too easy to buy a candy bar from the vending machine in the office lobby or raid our kids\u2019 cookie stash when the urge to snack hits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Losing weight with a desk job means having a plan. If you have a plan, then you won\u2019t give into the belly-fattening food of the moment (learn&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/masalabody.com\/what-to-eat-to-lose-belly-fat\/\">how to burn belly fat here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So stock your pantry with foods that make for healthy snacking, and if you work outside of the home, bring those snack foods with you. Make the decision about what you\u2019ll be snacking on before the day starts. Indulge in a black coffee sprinkled with<a href=\"https:\/\/masalabody.com\/health-benefits-of-cinnamon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;sweet, exciting cinnamon<\/a>&nbsp;and a splash of unsweetened almond milk, if you like. It\u2019ll satisfy your need to indulge while burning fat cells (especially in the belly) and protect against diabetes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SWAP: Drink spiced, herbal, or green tea (hot or iced) instead of juice or soda, diet soda, or juice drinks&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spiced, herbal, or green tea will give you a nice refreshing drink that can help boost weight loss instead of stagnating it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SWAP: Eat nuts instead of chips for an afternoon crunch<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nuts&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au\/health\/healthyliving\/Nuts-and-seeds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">provide your body with healthy fats<\/a>&nbsp;that sustain you, as well as healthy vitamins and minerals. In fact, most have cheap oils that will add to belly fat and obesity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SWAP: Dark chocolate for vending machine candy bars<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dark chocolate is one of my favorite&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/masalabody.com\/what-to-eat-to-lose-belly-fat\/\">belly-fat burning foods<\/a>! By enjoying at least 80% dark chocolate you\u2019ll get the healthy fats and antioxidants in cocoa while savoring a smooth, luxurious treat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vending machine candy has had almost all the healthy parts cooked out and replaced by high amounts of sugar that your liver will turn straight to fat cells. It\u2019s a fast track to desk job weight gain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4.&nbsp;<strong>&nbsp;INCLUDE PROTEIN IN YOUR SNACKING<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20370%20247'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/masalabodycom.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Vegetarian-Meal-Plan-PBJ-Smoothie.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load wp-image-5216\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/masalabodycom.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Vegetarian-Meal-Plan-PBJ-Smoothie.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5216\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/diet\/benefits-protein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Protein<\/a>&nbsp;helps you feel full and provides your body with the nutrients it needs to break down fat quickly and efficiently. You can add protein to your snacks in many ways, but here are a couple of my favorite protein-packed snacks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Greek yogurt.<\/strong>&nbsp;Greek yogurt is a good source of protein, and you can&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/masalabody.com\/15-foods-to-put-in-greek-yogurt-to-lose-weight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">add certain foods to it that will help with weight loss.<\/a>&nbsp;It\u2019s also easy to eat while sitting at your desk. Best of all, smoothies are easy to snack on while sitting at your desk. It\u2019s key for anyone who sits at a desk all day and wants to lose weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can do this by getting a standing desk, or just get in the habit of standing while you make phone calls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Standing throughout the day, instead of just sitting all day long has been linked to healthier blood sugar levels and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/blog\/the-truth-behind-standing-desks-2016092310264\">burning more calories<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s such a simple thing that can make a big difference!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6.&nbsp;<strong>SET AN ALARM FOR MINI WORKOUTS DURING THE WORKDAY<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20370%20247'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/masalabodycom.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/chalo-garcia-_o7DFimchMg-unsplash-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load wp-image-15807\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/masalabodycom.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/chalo-garcia-_o7DFimchMg-unsplash-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15807\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Doing a mini workout at your desk \u2013 whether you\u2019re at the office or at home \u2013&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stack.com\/a\/predicted-2023-fitness-and-wellness-trends-not-your-usual-trends\/#:~:text=Mini%20workouts%20are%20becoming%20trendy,%2C%20pushups%2C%20and%20mini%20jumps.\">is not as crazy as you might think<\/a>. This trend is starting to gain more popularity as people realize their health supersedes old-fashioned notions of propriety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, it\u2019s easy to get sucked into your work and hardly notice the hours fly by. By setting an alarm to go off every couple of hours, you can remind yourself to get up and move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simple workouts you can do at your desk that don\u2019t need much room include jumping jacks and stretches, which&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/jumping-heartbeat-exercise-your-pulse-bring-science-home\/\">get your blood flowing<\/a>, reduce your blood sugar levels and boost your metabolism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are many exercises that actually make use of your office equipment (don\u2019t worry, you won\u2019t be at risk of breaking anything) \u2013 check out this article from Healthline that contains&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/fitness\/office-exercises#exercises-with-your-chair-or-desk\">30 exercises you can do at the office<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7.&nbsp;<strong>&nbsp;GET A WORK WALKING BUDDY<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20370%20247'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/masalabodycom.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/linkedin-sales-solutions-hf-kxslw7ok-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load wp-image-15806\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/masalabodycom.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/linkedin-sales-solutions-hf-kxslw7ok-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15806\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to working out at your desk, walking around the office or outside your house is a great way to get in a quick workout. If you use your walking time to discuss a shared project, you\u2019ll feel super-productive (and the physical activity will help get those creative juices flowing!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you work from home, it\u2019s still possible to find a walking buddy. Websites like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetup.com\/topics\/walking-buddies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Meet Up<\/a>&nbsp;can help you find others in your neighborhood who are interested in walking during the workweek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8.&nbsp;<strong>DRINK MORE WATER<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20370%20247'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/masalabodycom.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-29-143925.png\" alt=\"lemon cucumber water\" class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load wp-image-15772\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/masalabodycom.wpenginepowered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screenshot-2023-03-29-143925.png\" alt=\"lemon cucumber water\" class=\"wp-image-15772\"\/><\/noscript><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Drinking more water is a staple of most healthy diets where weight loss is the main goal, and for good reason \u2013&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hub.jhu.edu\/at-work\/2020\/01\/15\/focus-on-wellness-drinking-more-water\/#:~:text=Science%20suggests%20that%20water%20can,to%20results%20on%20the%20scale.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">studies suggest<\/a>&nbsp;that water helps suppress appetite, boost your metabolism, remove body waste, and burn fat. While sitting at your desk and you need something to sip on, drinking water is one of the best things you can do to lose weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I know that some find drinking plain water to be, well,&nbsp;<em>boring<\/em>. If you\u2019re one of these people, then you need to try my Infused Debloating Water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Debloating water is a healthy way of getting toxins out of your system while inducing a sense of relief from digestive comfort. Here is my recipe for debloating water that will give you a boost when you\u2019re sitting at your desk, feeling the afternoon slump:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Combine any or all these ingredients below in a large pitcher and let them infuse overnight. In addition to taking exercise breaks, make sure to take periodic mental breaks where you let yourself forget work. Whether it\u2019s reading a book on your lunch break or using your daily stroll to zone out and admire your environment, give yourself the opportunity to&nbsp;<em>let work go<\/em>&nbsp;for a little bit.
