At 89, Rita Moreno <\/strong>is unquestionably a Hollywood legend. Not only is she one of a very few entertainers to achieved the EGOT<\/a>\u2014winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony\u2014she\u2019s been a figure in show business for almost 80 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From West Side Story <\/em>to the recent revival of One Day at a Time<\/em><\/a>, Moreno has made her mark on pop culture. And she\u2019s also known for getting candid about her personal life. In a recent interview, Rita Moreno spilled not only about some of her most famous exes but also revealed her No. 1 tip for having great sex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ll tell you what makes sex great: having it when you want it,\u201d the actor told Esquire<\/em><\/a>. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing like it. When you are ready for it and the other person is more than ready for it, you can\u2019t beat that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreno told the magazine that she had one major stipulation before taking on the role of grandmother Lydia Riera in\u00a0One Day at a Time<\/em>, which ran from 2017 to 2020.\u00a0In a conference call with producers, she recalled saying,\u201dI have one request, and if you can\u2019t do that, I\u2019m not interested. [Lydia] has to be a sexual being. The inability to conceive doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re no longer a woman with feelings.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also opened up about her views on love and commitment, aside from the physical aspect of a relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think love has a great deal to do with trust,\u201d Moreno said. \u201cLove is the kind of thing that happens when you understand your partner would do anything for you, as you would for them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She dated Elvis Presley to make Marlon Brando jealous.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Moreno had been dating Marlon Brando<\/strong> but was \u201cdevastated\u201d when she found someone else\u2019s lingerie in his house, she told Esquire<\/em>. To \u201cget even\u201d with him, she went out with Elvis Presley<\/strong>, saying yes when his manager Colonel Tom Parker<\/strong>, called to ask her on a date on his client\u2019s behalf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo we dated a couple times,\u201d Moreno said. \u201cMarlon found out about it, and boy, was he upset. Mind you, he\u2019s the one who had the ladies\u2019 underwear at his house. He got insanely angry. He was throwing chairs, and it was wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presley served his purpose, but otherwise, Moreno wasn\u2019t impressed with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPeople asked me, \u2018What did you think of Elvis?’\u201d she said. \u201cAnd mind you, I had been going with Marlon for quite some time, so I said he was a bit dull. He was a sweet country boy. He was nice and he was boring. I don\u2019t know how else to tell you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her relationship with Brando was a rollercoaster.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn a way, it was an extremely sensual relationship,\u201d she said of Brando to Esquire<\/em>. \u201cThat part of it was nothing but incredible. But then there was the rest of him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also wrote about their love affair in her 2013 memoir, as reported by the New York Post<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo say that he was a great lover\u2014sensual, generous, delightfully inventive\u2014would be gravely understating what he did not only to my body, but for my soul,\u201d Moreno wrote. \u201cEvery aspect of being with Marlon was thrilling, because he was more engaged in the world than anyone else I\u2019d ever known.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, their relationship was colored by Brando\u2019s infidelity and temper. According to Moreno, when she told him that she was carrying their child, he arranged for the pregnancy to be terminated. And the procedure was botched, forcing Moreno to rush to the hospital. After that, she took an overdose of sleeping pills. Brando\u2019s assistant found her and brought her back to the hospital to have her stomach pumped. Moreno (and her therapist) decided then that she should cut ties with the On the Waterfront <\/em>star for good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy relationship with Marlon was the classic example of looking for acceptance from someone who is incapable of giving it,\u201d she said to Esquire<\/em>. \u201cYou\u2019re trying to get Daddy to love you, and you inevitably pick someone who is incapable of feeling that way about you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her husband of 45 years was \u201ca controller.\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Moreno is the subject of a feature documentary that premiered at Sundance earlier this year. In the film, Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go For It<\/em>, as reported by USA Today<\/em><\/a>, she reveals that her husband Leonard Gordon <\/strong>was \u201ca controller\u201d and did not particularly enjoy her larger-than-life personality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two were married from 1965 until Gordon\u2019s death in 2010. When he passed, Moreno says in the film, \u201cI thought, \u2018It\u2019s over. I don\u2019t have to answer to anybody anymore.’\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a Q&A after the Sundance screening, Moreno said that she would not have considered airing their marriage problems when Gordon was still alive. She would have needed to ask for his permission, and she was sure he wouldn\u2019t have granted it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd it\u2019s entirely possible and probable that he would have said, \u2018What? Are you crazy? No you cannot,’\u201d the star said. \u201cIn a way, having the freedom to do it was really very important to me because we ran quite an extraordinary and successful charade for many years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She went on to says that he was \u201ca wonderful person,\u201d but that she thinks she would have been better off on her own all those years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
